The Finish Line is Still Blurry....
Despite working on this Redevelopment Plan for nearly ten years we still have a ways to go. If you have attended any of the monthly Bayview Hunters Point Project Area Committee meetings (and you should), many of you will surely argue that this is not the case. Some of you will celebrate because of your belief of this process as being ominous. Lastly, if you are or have been a member of the PAC you may think I am discrediting the past work and achievements. This word is meant only as a cautioning that there is much work to do, and we need the collective energies and intellectual capacities of this tremendously diverse community to bring the finish line to clear view.
There is a Redevelopment Plan right now for this community. You may obtain a copy from this website or from the PAC Office. The Project Area committee is working on amendments to the plan and other important details that will affect this community. Subjects like truck routes, affordable housing Ç rental and ownership -, eminent domain, land usages, community benefits i.e. economic development, and the general health and well being of this community are being discussed. From the discussions will come tangible actions that the community will have to live with for better or worst.
The timetable is ticking because change in 94124 is inevitable. None of us can stop escalating rents or hoards of developers desperately trying to claim the last sizable lots of undeveloped land in San Francisco. This is the truth. But I believe that community driven redevelopment can alter the change to benefit the indigenous people of the affected area. Community is more than just the members of the PAC, it is you the residents and stakeholders of this community. I encourage you to join our race - participate, to see the finish line and then, arrive at it with plenty of strength to go.
Be Blessed and Be a Blessing
