Housing, Economic Development & Employment Committee

Cedric Jackson, Chairperson
The Economic Development & Employment Committee focus is to consider and plan for opportunities that will enliven the economic status of the community. It considers access to necessary basic services, entertainment, upscale amenities, etc. As well, EDE plans opportunities and spaces for such, to be located conveniently and appropriately throughout the neighborhood with a viable commercial corridor in the town's center. Included in the EDE efforts are education forums for current business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to prepare for growth and expansion. The EDE committee also considers the development and access to training programs, education, and potential employment opportunities that are coming available in the community. The Committee seeks to create realistic linkages between potential employers, local schools and job training and development programs. In this way the community, at all levels, are able to participate economically in the redevelopment of our community. The Committee places particular focus on developing a "Bayview Hunters Point" first hiring attitude, computer literacy and accessibility, and building skills development, strengthening and gearing the public schools curriculum towards literacy, math and science.

Additionally, the Committee focuses on the planning and development of housing in the Bayview Hunters Point community. The Committee also strategizes mechanisms to preserve safe and affordable housing for all members of the community. Included in the plans are creative solutions for families, individuals, the elderly, and persons with special needs. The Committee seeks opportunities for home ownership for those who have historically been renters.
