About the PAC
Our Mission

Mosaic (Bayview Community Center, 1967) |
The community entrusts the Bayview Hunters Point Project Area Committee
(PAC) with the responsibility of providing advice, recommendation,
and direction to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. Through the development
of a Concept Plan that specifically details the exigency of the community,
the PAC's and the community's participation in the revitalization of the
Bayview Hunters Point will result in a blueprint of empowerment and revitalization
that is in the best interest of the current Bayview Hunters Point residents,
businesses and community organizations. Our interest is in fostering accessibility
and availability to the ambient factors needed to become a vibrant, family-oriented
and exciting economically viable community.
The PAC's mission represents a combination of policies and strategies,
which promote the following elements:
-
Economic and Employment Development: Insist on job
creation and economic viability with a policy of Bayview Hunters Point
first. Included and encouraged is the promotion of entrepreneurial
opportunities.
-
Education and Training: Insist on access to the necessary
academic, skills training and resources required to fully and equally
participate in the workforce and society at large.
-
Cultural and Arts Development: Provide an expression
(development) of Bayview Hunters Point's cultural base, intermingled
with the presentation/display of the historical ethnicity of the Bayview
Hunters Point through the arts.
-
Human Services: Immediate and equal access to services
and facilities for all ages, groups and income levels.
-
Housing: Access and availability of affordable and
appropriate housing for all households, income and status levels for
both renters and homeowners.
-
Land Use, Transportation and Planning: Ascertain the
appropriate use of space in order to design a neighborhood that is
accessible, inviting and that encourages the improvement to the mixed-use
and cultural character of the Bayview Hunters Point. Additionally,
make certain that new developments and infrastructure alterations
are designed to complement the urban framework and dignity of the
ethnic and historical facade of the neighborhood.
-
Health and Environment: Immediate and equal access
to health care including preventative services and education on the
various ailments that plague our community. Insistence on the immediate
closure and necessary modification of all improper or environmentally
hazardous facilities, including the prevention of new developments
that process or create environmental hazards.
-
Community Interaction and Communication: Encouraging
the lines of communication and active participation among the traditionally
low participatory community and City agencies that interact with the
community.
-
Quality of Life: Provide for a more livable community
for the residents and businesses by ensuring a clean and safe environment.
Improve the attractiveness of the area for the enjoyment of all local
residents and visitors to San Francisco. Provide for community education
and comprehensive health services and amenities to make the Bayview
Hunters Point a pleasant place to live, work and visit.
-
Community Fabric: Ensure that the revitalization process
is not oppressive and segregating to the social make-up of the Bayview
Hunters Point, and that the current positive attributes/fibers of
the community reign strong. This means a proactive focus on the characteristics
of the Bayview Hunters Point and celebrate the unique history and
diversity of the Bayview Hunters Point's social make-up.
